Bid to trace 'forgotten' words

A publisher has launched a scheme to trace rare dialect words that may have slipped out of everyday usage.

Puckaterry, which in the Norfolk dialect means muddle, and ommuck, which in Black Country parlance means sandwich, are examples of some of the words that are feared to have died out in the last generation.

Publisher Collins has launched an audit to trace when these dialect words died out and determine if any have survived and are still in use.
