Thirteen-year-old schoolgirl Lindsay Jo Rimer vanished 15 years ago

Detectives have said they are still actively looking for the killer of a 13-year-old schoolgirl on the 15th anniversary of the day she went missing.

Lindsay Jo Rimer left her home in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, on November 7, 1994, to buy cereals from her local shop.

But the teenager never returned and her body was found in a local canal five months later.

Despite huge media coverage in the 1990s and desperate pleas from Lindsay's parents, the murderer has never been found.

The senior investigating officer now in charge of the investigation, Detective Superintendent Colin Prime, of West Yorkshire Police's Major Investigation Review Team, said: "I firmly believe that someone somewhere could hold vital information that would lead us to the killer.

"Although 15 years have passed since Lindsay's disappearance, we continue to seek the vital pieces of information that will bring closure to the investigation and for Lindsay's family."

Mr Prime added: "It may be that someone has harboured a suspicion for all these years. With the passage of time, someone who was unable to come forward and speak to us more than a decade ago might be in a position to do so now. I would strongly urge them to get in touch."

He said Lindsay left her home in Cambridge Street at around 10pm and was captured on CCTV at the Spar supermarket buying cornflakes at 10.22pm. Officers know she visited the Trades Club in Holme Street on her way to the shop.

Lindsay's body was later recovered from the Rochdale Canal, about one mile upstream from Hebden Bridge town centre.

Over the 15 years since the girl's death officers have spoken to more than 5,000 people and taken hundreds of statements. Various writers have tried to link the murder to a range of different convicted killers but the police have never identified a suspect.
